PROTECTION OF KIEL CANAL,

LONDON, Nov. 23. The Germans have constructed fortifications at Me-uder (?), on Alsen Island.

Many Schleswig-Holstein towns are surrounded with trenches; and scores oi thousands of the old Landsturm are guarding the Danish frontier.

[Alsen Island is m the Little Belt, forming part of the Prussian province of Schleswig-Holstein. It has aji area of 124 square miles. It is obvious that the extra, fortifications is to protect the Baltic entrance to the Kiel Canal.]
