• Tuesday. The wool-growers of this district have reason to be well satisfied with their > first shipment of wool, which was. consigned per s.s. Blenheim on Saturday tor. Wellington. The shipment consisted of 212 bales, which, at the present price of wool, represents close on £4000. Mr Dalton, oi Pelorus^Valley1, Was the biggest shipper, but lai-ge parcels also came .from the Kaituna district.
Havelock is soon to lose one of its most prominent and valued citizens in the person of Mr "W. K. Matthews, who has for a number of years held the dual positions of secretary and engineer to the Pelorus Road Board and the Havelock Town Board. By his long association with local-body work, Mr Matthews has a very intimate' knowledge of the requirements of the district, and his place will be nard to fill. Mr Matthews has been appointed engineer to the Kairanga CJounty Council (Palmerston North) and leaves for his new sphere of .'work aoout the middle of December. ' At a special meeting: of the Town Board, jheld yesterday, the resignation of Mr Matthews was received with regret, and the following motion, moved by Mr W. H. Smith, the chairman, was unanimously carried:—"That this Board place on record its high appreciation of the long and valuable services rendered to the Town of Havelock by Mr W. K. Matthews in his capacity of secretary and inspector to the Havelock Town Board, and wish Mm success in his new sphere of ■work."
