"DRIEST LONDON."
LIQUOR SALE RESTRICTIONS
HOUSE OF COMMONS EXEMPTED
(Received Nov. 30, 8.15 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 30<
The newspapers give prominence "to semi-humorous articles on the subject of "Driest London." Many houses opened vdu ring prohibited hours,. .and Grid'davored! to popularise coffee, soup, and hot dishes. They were doing a roaring trade in coffee between seven and nine, when the workers were going to the factories. A number of houses did not open before mid-day. The '■■ regulations permit of ■ intoxicants being served during general ■lunch. The swell West End clubs and the smallest suburban saloons strictly observed the orders. There were few public protests, ' though the trades union agitation continues. The only comments are made, on the fact that the bars and dining-rooms at the House of Commons;arc exempted from the restrictions.
. The Daily Telegraph-says that there is a strong feeling that Cabinet should set'an example of'economy.
