A Sydney -cablegram l'eports the death of Mr W. A. Long, a wellknown racing breeder and owner.
A Christchurch telegram reports the death of Mr F H. Pyne, of Pyne and Co.. auctioneers, and well known in racing circles.
The death is announced of Mr W. O. Rutherford, of Montrose, North Canterbury, a well-known station owner, aged 72.
Mr M. W. Horton, late traffic manager of <the Union Company's Wellington office, who enlisted some time ago in the Army Service Corps, has been promoted to the position of ser-geant-major.
A well-known Poverty Bay chief in the person of Wi Pere, ex-M.P. for the Eastern Maori District, and formerJy a member oi' tho Legislative Council, is at pre^nt seriously ill, Kind his condition is occasioning much anxiety. He has been confined to bed for the past three months.
