From the pedestal between the lions the voices of recruiters floated over the dense crowds. At intervals the people were thrilled by the clear notes of si trumpeter pJaying tii&. "Death or Nelson." . The service in St. MartmVin-the-Fields was impressive by the solemnity ■and simplicity of the, Bishop's impassioned appeal. His denunciation of Miss CaveU's mmckners deeply stirred the congregation. Many Red Cross collectors were on <lutv at the eaily markets at 3 30. 'The collections by the Australians in the Strand from the sale of flags and kangaroo souvenirs; were devoted to thei^rdanellos. Among the collectors were Latlv Me Bride, Lady Robinson, Lady Newton^Moore, and Madame Ada Crossley. . New Zealand ladies collected in Victoria Street ..and Australian ladies in the Strand.
