HIGH COMMISSIONER'S

REPORT

The High Commissioner's cable, dated London, May .22nd, is as follows. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise 'specified, are. average market prices 011 spot):

Meat: The market is firm, owing to reduced supplies, together 'with very large den:and for the Government during the week. Higher prices have been agreed to after consultation between the Board -of Trade and the meat traders,' especik ally in the case of home-grown and chilled beef.

For New Zealand butter the demand on spot is good at higher prices, 144s to 14Gs; 4ustralinn 138s to 140s. Irish creamery supplies are increasing, and Jire in fair demand. 140s to 1445; Siberian, none offering; Argentine, iw good demand, 138s to 140s. Olieese: The market is very firm, and the .supply -falls short of the demand. Canadian supplies are nearly exhausted. Prices are nominal;,,, la>t season's make, white 98s per vw\j., colored 965. New Zealand, market advanced during week, closing firm at higher prices, with brisk 'lomand ; white and colored 88s to 945, according to quality and size. Hemp: TJie market is steadier and firmer. New Zealand good-fair grade C 33 per ton., lair £31, fair current Manila £39 lO.s. May-July shipment, New Zealand good-fair £32 .10s; fair £o0 12s; Manila £39.
