ACTIVITY OF THE ENEMY.

END OF A TWO MONTHS'

STRUGGLE,

SOME GROUND GAINED

(Received Dec. 9, 9,5 a.m.) PARIS, Dec. 8. A communique srtates 'that the enemy are more active on the Yser and around Ypres. Our artillery replied successfully. Our very brilliant attack, which carried Vermelles and the Rutoire position, marked the end of a determined two months' struggle, in which we sapped and mined. . Since we were expelled from Vermelles on October 25th our heavy artillery dispersed several of the enemy's positions on the Aisne and at Champagne. We gained some ground in the Argonne, .in La Grurie wood, and also north-west of Pont-a-Mousson. ■
