P. AND D. COMPANY
THE ANNUAL REPORT. DIVIDEND AND BONUS RECOM-. MENDED. [PEBIS ASSOCIATION.] (Received Dec. 8, 8.50 a.m.) X LONDON, Dec. 7. Tlia Peninsular and Oriental Company shows a profit of £359,703; brought forward, £68,703. # \ The directors report that immediately war was declared the Admiralty commandeered nearly half -the company's fleet, of upward of 200,000 tons. . The directors are certain of a revival of exports to India and Australia, but not to China and Japan. A formidable obstacle to trade will be the war insurance, for which ithe company paid £31,000 in eight weeks. , The cost of running ships has increased in every direction, except in canal dues, but, considering the company's contingent fund of '£450,000 and ordinary reserve of £1,374,000, the directors feel justified in recommending a dividend and bonus.
