ANN UAL DISTR IBUTION OF

BONUS

The annual bonus distribution, which is such an important feature of this great Society; was.yesterday brought prominently before'the niembers by the issue of the bonus certificates, for the. year ended December 31st, 1913, which were received by them yesterday morning throughout the Commonwealth of Australia and the Dominion of New Zealand. The cash surplus available for distribution was £975,881, a<nd this will provide reversionary bonuses of about £1,730,----000, which will no doubt be highly gratifying to the members. *

Yesterday Avas also the forty-third anniversary of the establishment of the New Zealand branch of the >Society,. and it is now in the proud position of being the premier life office in the Dominion, having a larger amount of business on its books than any other life institution doing business in the Dominion. The total policies in force on the New Zealand branch at December 31st last in the ordinary department was 45,891, assuring £16,005,135, including bonus additions, while in the , indxistrial department there were 20.948 policies in force, assuring £768,413. The new business written for 1913 in New Zealand was far in excess of any previous year, and comprised 3857 policies, assuring £1,302,891, in the ordinary department, and 5986 policies, assuring. £243.913. in the industrial department, which taken together is equal to an assurance of about £1 10s per head of the whole population of the- Dominion. The total funds of the Society on the hooks of the New Zealand branch at 31st December last amounted to £5,294,813, and the total income of the branch from its ordinary and industrial departments combined is £718,634 per annum.
