CANVASTOWN
[from our correspondent.] i Monday
The first stage of. winter has set in, and oold south-east weather prevails through the valley. -However, feed and stock look well for the winter; in fact, pastures and stock in the VVakamarina'look better than anywhere m Marlborough. Messrs Ward and Co., the new sawmillers, are making extensive improvements at the sawmill lately purchased by them. The mill stands on Mr C. L. Diamanti's property, and is close to the main road, through the Wakamarinai Valley. On Saturday Mr C. L. Diamanti celebrated his 51at birthday, and there was quite a social gathering ,of old and new friends at his residence. There were about thirty adults present, and a most enjoyable time was spent. I understand that the outpujt at the Golden Ear under the new manager is steadily increasing, and that the mine is still'paying well.
