TIMARU, May 1. On Sunday an elderly man named Adam Stevenson was missed from' his camp near the Orari Bridge gate. A mate named Cripps said that Stevenson, left the camp on" Saturday to go to.Geraldine. As he'could'not bo traced, a search was instituted, and yesterday afternoon Constable O'Grady found the body in the riverbed covered with sacks. *

He was satisfied that there had been foul play, and he arrested Cripps, who made contradictory statements.

The doctor found four wounds in -Stevenson's head, such as might have been caused by a blunt instrument.
