MAYORAL CANDIDATE
CURIOUS SITUATION IN WELLINGTON. The candidature of Mr H. Holland for the Wellington Mayoralty appears to be involved m a curious difficulty against which the Social Democratic ir-ai uj is taking precautions.- It has been rumored that if Mr Holland is finally convicted of sedition this carries with it the penalty of disfranchisement. The Court of Appeal indefinitely reserved its decision in the case heard -recently, and thus there t is created some uncertainty in the matter. In order to put at rest all possible doubt a largely attended special meeting of the members of the party was held at the Opera House last Sunday afternoon to'consider the situation. It was the unanimous determination of the meeting to fight the election to a finish with Mr Holland as the party's candidate, ir eligible. To. this end it was decided that the name of Mr Holland should be regularly submitted to the returning officer and that in the event of his nomination being held by that orncer to be legally impossible then the name of Mr-tfohn Glover should be substituted on the nomination & ape w ,i- Mr Glorer is president of the Wellington branch of the Social Democratic Party and manager of the Maoriland Worker. The position is that Mr Holland remains the candidate so far as the Social Democrats have any choice in the matter and in the event of their choice being impossible the support which would have been accorded Mr Holland goes to Mr Glover. .
