IMPERIAL DEFENCE.
THE JAPANESE FRIENDSHIP
A SAFEGUARD TO AUSTRALIA
[Tress Association.] * SYDNEYr March 23." The- Daily Telegraph, commenting on Mr Churchill'iS speech, states that •undoubtedly it is a fact' that British interests in the Pacific are safeguarded by the Anglo-Japanese alliance. It is not correct to ,'say that Australia and Ncav Zealand are protected by Japanese ships and m Qn. Mr Churchill did not say it. No naval expedition from Europe need be feared, und attack by the United States is unthinkable. So .also is invasion by any of the South American Republics. There'remains, only Japan, since China may be-ruled out for some time to come. Therefore, it is obvious that the alliance secures safety.
