ROME, March 21. A torpedoer at high, speed collided with, a steamer in the Grand Canal -»t Venice. Fifty of the 'steamer's passengers -were drowned, chiefly women and children returning from service at St. Mark's Church.
The steamer toad eighty "passengers aboard. The jean into-hei' at full speed, and the steamer sank in a minute. The majority 6f those aboard were skeltering .in the saloon, owing to the «cold, and few had time to escape. Italian and German bluejackets saved many.. Lieutenant Bossi was ■ attenuating to save a woman, whaa many ox the victims cluxtg to his neck, and he was drowned. Tho city is in mourning, and the theatres a«d restaurants have been closed. I
