For 1912 the f total was £4,081,162, and the increase i is' £56,491, but taking per head of ! popiilation the amount last year was |£3 14s per head against £3 14s ll^d. i The quantities per head work out as j spirits .78 gallons, wines .181, and i beer 9.209. The statement points j out that the amount spent, on liquor* would pay the total railway expenditure interest on the .cost of railways 1 and leave enough to pay the sick and ' fun oral benefits of all friendly soj cieties in New Zealand. For a houee--1 hold of five porsons the average yearly expenditure is £18 10s.
