A c-"se presenting extraordinary features came ivp before Mr W'. Kerr, j S.VL, r>t the AVa.nga.nui Magistrate's Court the other day. The AVanganui j police received a cabled warrant from England charging a well-known and resnsctert local residents, who with his wife and family, has been living _hi Wangaiiui for some time past, with fraud and embezzlement. With -no other information to work on, Detec-tive-Sergeant Siddells executed the warrant, and the accused was charged under the Extradition Act. Detec-tives-Sergeant Siddells asked that t accused be remanded, pending the arrival of further .papers from England. Bail was asked for, but the Magistrate said that while he was willing to do all in his power to mitigate the hardship suffered by accused while he was in New Zealand, it was not within his jurisdiction to grant bail, and accused would have to remain in custody. Accused will probably be extradited"'to England, where ,he will stand his trial on the charges contained in the warrant. '
