FATE OP THE SECOND OFFICER
.(Received Aug. 30, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 29.. The English newspapers give stirring details of the fire on the Imperator. . , The second officer (Gobrecht) was .standing on the bridge. Looking ■iferough the glass-covered fire alarm, containing 33 tubes" connected with various parts of the ship, he observed smote in one tube. He touched the Button automatically directing jets of steam into the burning rooms. He equipped himself and others with smoke helmets, hut was overcome by the fumes, being wedged in the bunker door, which automatically closed. The fire brigade reached Gobrecht, and made desperate efforts to eaftricate him, but were forced to abandon ifi-e aitftenrpfc.
