At a sitting of the Warden's Court , m Blenheim to-cky, Mr F OB -Loughnan, S.M., gave further consideration, to the application of Geoffrey Morton for a license for an allmnal claim of about one acre at Cullensville. Mr J. Conolly, who represented the objectors—the persons interested in the King Solomon Mine —stated that Mr T. Scott-Smith (for the applicant) and himself had waited on the Pelorus Road Board, with respect to the right of mining on the public road, over a portion of which the claim extended. Counsel now produced a communication from the ijqard, in which, the application fo*this right was refused. The understanding being that the Warden had already granted a license subject to i •the consent of the Road Board, and that the privilege could not apply to Jand winch was on Mr Cullen's property, counsel would abandon the application for a rehearing, which was made on the grounds that the area sought by Mr Morton had not been accurately described. A considerable -amount of discussion ensued between Mr Scott-Smith and Mr Conolly with 'egaid to description of the'claim, the former maintaining-that it was a correct one, and intimating that the applicant, having been granted a license, hoped to secure the Board's sanction ultimately. Mr Scott-Smith deprecated the action of Mr Conolly m approaching the members of the Board. Mr Conolly replied that he j had acted openly, and interviewed Board members only when Mr ScottSmith had told him that he himself had taken this course. The Warden ' pointed out that the license had already been grantor! subject to the Board's consent. All that he would do now was to make it clear in the description of the area that any operations would have to be restricted to the public road.
