RAILWAY HEADQUARTERS.
THE DEPARTMENT'S ATTITUDE
The following communication, dated the 2nd inSt., has been received by Mr R. McCallum, MvP., from the Hon. W. H. Herries, Minister for Railways:— • ■ ""With reference to-the representations that wer^made by the deputation that waited upon me recently urging that the headquarters of the railway staff on the Picton section should be transferred:.«to Blenheim, I hare the honor to inform you that the officer in charge has been stationed at Picton, which is the most suitable, place for the. -headquarters so far as the Department is concerned. The most important portion of his work, viz., the shipping _and receiving of goods, is transacted at Picton- Telephonic communication has been established between Picton and: Blenheim, and there should be no difficulty in the merchants ot Blenheim receiving any necessary information, or transacting any necessary business with the stationmaster at Blenheim.
