106 MILES AN HOUR.
' When some weeks ago it was cabled that Percy Lambert had covered 103| miles in an hour on Brooklands track (England) it was considered that such ■a wonderful performance would stand some time; but this fine drive only remained on the record sheet for a few weeks. ' Particulars are now to hand from England of a still more remarkable drive by the French crack, Jules Goux, who, mounted on the 30 h.p. Peugeot that won last year's Grand Prix, succeeded in cramming 106 miles, 387 yards into 60 minutes. Goux's time for 50 miles was 28mins. 18.6secs., and for the 100 miles 56 mins. 29.9 sees. After driving _ for 41 laps, equivalent to about 112 miles, Goux's seat at the wheel was taken by another French crack in G. Boillot, who then set out for all records up to six hours. Shortly _ after 150 miles had been negotiated in lhr. 28 mins 35.6 sees, the carburetter caught fire, and all further attempts on the /long-distance records had to be abandoned. Such wonderful performances as Goux's and Lambert's makes one wonder when finality will be reached in this direction. Already Lambert has announced that he intends endeavoring to cover 110 in the hour on Brpoklands, and from the look of things, it is quite possible that 120 miles will yet be recorded in the hour.
