(Received May 1, 0.5 a.m.)
LONDON, April 30. It is reported that Djavid .Pasha has overthrown the Valona 'Government.
It is reported that Austria's that she was acting independently was made to Vienna editors and foreign correspondemts and not to any members of -the Cabinet. ' There has been a heavy but momentary decline1 in the Stock Exchange. ' ' The Daily ; JVlail, in a ■ leading ■article headed "Attempt to Frighten ■ #<he Powers," says Austria's T-ague menaces are unlikely to overcome .) the objections to King "Nicholas's forcible ejection. jf' The Morning Post says that ""^diplomatists doubt whether it will suit Austria to engage, in a costly war by arousing Russia, or be mntent with other means of coercion, ; including the taking advantage of \ Montenegro 0s pressing' ' heed for I money. .British Government circles are hopeful of a settlement. The Timers says: "As1 the Powers are unanimous' regarding the substance—namely, they are- determined . that Europe's will shall prevail, and • they are divided only regarding the procedure-—it is impossible to con--ceiye that Austria will be so incredibly rash as; to take immediate single-handed action." The Chronicle's Vienna correspondent says that Prince Danilo handed Esead a telegram from the Turco- . Albanian- Committee at Constantinople urging Essad and Dj avid to save Albania "and overthrow Kemal's provisional government at Valona; . Essad concluded a compact with King Nicholas, providing for the Sultan's sovereignty in ; Albania, which would join the -jialkan. League. Montenegro would' have Scutari and San Giovanni. King Nicholas, supplied Essad with ammunition and provisions, and released and armed 50Q0 Turkish prisoners. It is stated that Russia 1 patronised the scheme.
