THE LAND BOARD.
MB STOBEY REPLACES vMR
READER,
Mr J. S. Storey, wlio has been appointed to the Marlborough Land Board by the Government, took his seat, at the meeting to-day. He was welcomed by Mr W. H. Skinner, Commissioner of Crown Lands, who said that Mr Storey's lengthy experience in local government circles and the evident confidence that the public had reposed in him well equipped him tor his new position. Mr Storey suitably acknowledged the compliment. The new member replaces Mr H. M. Reader \ on the Board. The Commissioner referred in complimentary terms to Mr Reader's associations witli the Land Board. His membership, he understood, extended continuously over ten or twelve years. Mr MeCallum moved: "That the Board place on record its appreciation of the services rendered by Mr H. M. Reader to the country generally and the Crown tenants during his lengthy membership of the Land Board." He said that Mr Reader had ably and faithfully served the interests of the
country and the Crown tenants, and i his record was distinctly to his credit. Mr Header had been most energetic and thordugh in his methods and unbiassed in his views. He might have differed occasionally from his fellowinembers; but he had an eye to the general benefit only, and, moreover, he did not spare himself in going about finding out the requirements of the settlers—especially those of the northern part of Marlborough. • Mr Fulton seconded the motion, ; adding that Mr McCallum had said nothing about Mr Reader's good qualities which that gentleman did not deserve. j The motion was carried.
