Mr H. Brett was yesterday elected chairman of directors of the Press Association.

Yesterday afternoon Mr V. Holdaway. a local carrier, sustained injuries to his back and side through a fall from a load of hay which he was carting at Riversdale. He will be incapacitated for a short time.

Major-General Godley, Commandant of the New Zealand Defence Forces, called at Picton on Wednesday on his way to Nelson and the West Coast. He was met by a parade of senior cadets, and made gratifying reference to the smartness of their appearance.

Mr Cullen, Commissioner of Police, ia at present on an official visit to this district. Mr Cullen must have pleasant memories of Blenheim, and his visit here now is reminiscent of the time, about thirty years ago, when he^ was a police constable, stationed in Blenheim. His progress in the Department reflects credftt upon him, and his high position is pleasing to his Blenheim friends. Miss Cullen, of this town, is a sister of Mr Cultori.

Practically the whole of the Sisters and Brethren attending the district council of Rechabites assembled at the residence of Bro. E. S. Hulbert, Howick Road, yesterday arternoon to follow the remains of their late Bro. F. Westbrook to the railway station. A short service was held outside. Bro. T. R. Richards read a portion of scripture, and Bra. Rev. B. H. Ginger read th*. beautiful service provided by the Rechabite Order. The well-known hymns "O God, our help m ages past," and "Jesu, Lover of my SotJ-" were sung, Sister Hulbert presiding at the organ. The pallbearers were district officers Bros Calder. Sherwood, Fathers, McCreath and Bros. T. Buttimora and L. A .X^^'^r Al,, the cortege left the 'Dead March" m "Sanl" was played iftro. Buttimore will attend the remains to Wanganui, and will represent the district at the funeral there.
