LONG-DISTANCE MOTOR RECORDS.

> A remarkable long-distance series * 'of motor-car records have been re- j cently testab wished on Brooklands ! track (England) by Victor Hcmery, « who is probably the finest speed . driver in the world to-day. The \ records attempted were the one to I six hours, standing to the credit of • the "Sunbeam" car. Hemery drove ! the Lorraine Dietrich that took part \ lin last year's French Grand Prix;* the nominal power of the car was 59.6 h.p. Starting away at a great . speed, Hemery covered 97 miles 1037 i yards in the first hour, and 100 miles : !in 61 .minutes 27 seconds. Continu- ; ing oil at a wonderful pace, the: following records were established : — I hour, 97 miles 1037 yards; 2 hours, \ 189 miles 1747 yards": 3 hours, 284 miles 817 yards; 4 hours, 344 miles 1344 yards; 6 hours, 422 miles 1574 yards; 6 hours, 518 miles 312 yards. ; In addition to the above, the follow- j ing new records were also established : ' 100 miles in lhr. lmin. 27.65ec.; ' 150 miles in lh. 3lmin. 52.05ec.; 200 miles in 2hr. smin. 56.75ec"; 400 miles in 4hr. 34min. 23.85ec.; HOO miles in Hhr. 48min. 38.8 sec. ■ On one occasion Hemery was delayed for 23J minutes, on account of one of the bolts of the connection bet.ween the radiator and water circulating pipe being lost, owing to the incessant vibration. This and other minor delays that occurred only make the performance of Heniery all the more amazing. Owing to the delay radiator, the French crack lost the 300 miles record, which was easily at his mercy. All told. Hennery established eleven new world's records. It j is interesting to note that tU<* cubic '

capacity of the engine of the big powerful car Hemery drove was five . times greater than that of the little j "Sunbeam" which previously held ' most of the records. The respective engine capacities were 15,095 inches and 2986 inches.
