MAHAKIPAWA MAIL SERVICE
TO THE EDITOR,
Sir, —I have just heard that we are at last to have three mails per week; but there is to be no return service on the three days. Now, for years past we have received our mail every Saturday and Wednesday morning, and have been able to reply the same day. If we are to have no return mail with the thrice weekly service,' we shall be unable to reply to our correspondence until two or three days have passed. Such a delay might cause serious loss, and without doubt much inconvenience. Thus will our new mail service' without a return mail be far more inadequate than the twice weekly ,<gez;Yisg. .which we have had all along. One \lias only to be at the Grove any afternoon and see the bundle of letters which Mr Philpotts takes to post and deliver in Picton to realise how great is our need of another mail service per week. But for the kindness of Mr. • Philpotts we should indeed be put to nluc'h inconvenience. We want three mails per week here; but we want to have a return mail on each of those three mail days. ■ PRO BONO PUBLICO. Mahakipawa, November 2, 1912. A peculiar accident occurred on the Merrivale road on Monday afternoon to a young married lady residing in the district (says^ the Southland News.) She was -riding her bicycle along the road past a homestead, from which a dog rushed out to bark at a person riding by on horseback. The dog evidently/did hot see the cyclist, and collided 'with the front wheel, causing the, rider to fall heavily to the ground;-. She was unconscious ..when picked up, and was found to be suffering from shock and a broken collarbone.
