A return which was presented' to " Parliament last week gives some in- ! teresting figures regarding the State j forests. The unalienated forest on I Crown lands (including State forests ; ■and forest reserves) totals 7,582,551 i acres. The figures for the different j provincial districts are:—Auckland, | 342,290 acres; Hawko's Bay, 327,822 acres;" Ta-ranalri, 330,372 acres, Wei-i lington, 1,131,900 jkji-cs; Nelson, ! 2,073,00 acres; Maryborough, 296,000 acres; Westland, 1,468,724 acres; ''- Canterbury, 301,780 acres; Otago, ' 198,000 acres; Southland, 1,112,663 acros. The area of forest land for j winch sawmilling permits have been i granted totals 166,472 acres. The '■ total revenue derived by the Crown j from the forests for the five years ended March 31 last was £305,563. '
