AUCKLAND, Nov. 4. A house at Belmont Terrace, Remuera, owned by Mrs Whitcombe and occupied by W.* F. Morgan, was'destroyed by fire on Saturday night. A carpenter named Ross, who was assisting in the attempt to extinguish the flames, was badly burned and had to be removed to the hospital. The heat was so intense that the firemen worked wrapped in wet blankets. The building was insured for £200 in the South British Office. The contents, valued at £200, were a total loss.

INVERCARGILL, Nov. 4. A fire occurred at Johnston's engineering works on Sunday evening, doing considerable damage in the engine-room, to which it was confined. The damage amounted to £300, but as the result of loss of machinery and equipment the men were unable to start work to-day. The building and contents were insured in the South British office for £1240.
