Speaking at the opening of the "Porirua Post Office yesterday the Hon. Mr Ell, referring.to telephones, sajd that whaii was a luxury a few years ago was a necessity to-day. His ■policy would be to first consider the needs of the back-blooks settlers and push on the telephone lines as rapidly as ftmds would permit. The long distiance telephone lines throughout the country were being rapidly extended, and at present a special copper wire was under course of construction from Auckland to Wellington. ~
