Mr Henniker Heaton, in an interview, said that Sir Joseph Ward had teen a great advocate of cheaper ■cables, and never failed to use ail the ©loquehoe in his power, and offer large subsidies for binding New Zealand to a national cable. The deferred cable concessions were too amusing to contemplate, when they realised; that there were 16 cables between England and America, capable of carrying 225,000,000 words per annum, while only 21,000,000 were sent. SYMPATHY WITH CRIMINALS.. SYDNEY, Jan. 12. The coroner at Murrumburrah, in returning a verdict of incendiarism at the inquest on the fire which occurred on January 2nd, declared that he could not make a committal.
