| Mr D. Jenness, of "Balliol College, j 1 Oxford, is .about to leave England ; ;on a scientific expedition in British j New Grunea. The undertaking, ; which has been organised by the ', Universiy of Oxford, and the cost; of which is being borne by private subscribers, will involve at least 12 months' work in the field. The headquarters will be on Goodenough Island, the most northerly part of the D'Entrecasteaux Archipelago. It is. intended to study the habits and cus- ■ toms, arts and religion of the in-,' habitants, who are thought to be an' intermixture of Melanesian and Papuan peoples. It is. known that cannibalism exists among the natives. ,
