HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The first meeting of the new committee of •the Marlborough. Horticultural 'Society waw held-last evening in the Agricultural ami Pastoral Society's .rooms, kindly lent by Mr Corry for Alxe occasion. In the Mbsence of the president, Mr Florance was voted to the chair. The business of the meeting was chiefly to make the necessary .arrangements for the forthcoming spring and autumn shows. It was decided -thiat a sub-com-mittee consisting of Mr Smale, Mrs Clcuston, Mrs JP- Redwood, Mr Florance, and Mr Hale be entrusted with the work of compiling new cafevloeues -for both shows, to be submitted to the general committee for its final-approval. ■.Certain suggested alterations- were agreed upon for- the guidance of the sub-committee. After considerable discussion it was decided "that a special judge be procured from a distance, to judge pot plants, .cut flowers, fruit, and vegetables, and the secretary was instructed to arrange with" Mr Waugh to act in that capacity, :jf possible. The ju&ging of all other exhibits to bo left to the decision of two judges in each-of the other telasses; such judges to be appointed1 .at the next meeting. . The next meeting of the general committee having tit© responsibility of providing prizies for ( the winning, exhibitors at both the. and autumn shows, it was agreed ' that: fvery nmember of the committee should Use their best endeavors to obtain from the society's patrons and jfriends special prizes for the leading exhibits, and1 report to that meeting. The secretary reported that the Town Hall had been engaged for the next show.
