NEW YORK, Sept. 16. Witchita, in. Kansas, has been inevaded by dense clouds of green insects, which covered the pavements an inch deep, stopping the traffic. There was great excitement among the inhabitants in trying to keep them out of their houses.

PARIS, Sept., 17. Cherbourg and other municipalities are buying provisions and reselling thorn, despite pecuniary los&, at the market prices of an ordinary year. In a little while they will open municipal stores and a restaurant, where meals will be supplied at cost price, without charging for the expenses of management. ■

Vessels trading between New Zearland and Australia, excepting passenger, boats, are exempted from the provisions of the Quarantine Act, provided that they are not from a proclaimed port. MeArtney, and Stevens (Ministerialists) by good majorities over Labor. Mr Cottell, Member for Toowong, died, and Mr MeArtney resigned tho North Brisbane seat to contest Toowong.
