The iCollier Wallarah was lying at Catherine; Hill Bay, the chief officer (McCormochie) and the second officer (MeGuirej sleeping over- a locker containing" rockets, when they were v awakened and found the cabin lull of flam&s. They managed to escape. Mc-Oonnochio was seriously injured and McGuire badly scorched. An explosion. caused by the rockets followed, but the crew subdued the fire. The Wallarah was badly damaged anidships. STRINGENT LICENSING LAWS. BRISBANE, Aug. 12. An amending Licensing Act tabled in the Assembly provides for more drastic penalties for adulteration, and licensing fees are considerably increased. It provides that barmaids shall be employed only between nine ii< the morning and six in the evening. The clauses controlling closing hours are very stringent. If the door of a bar is unlocked or a light seen in a. bar during prohibited horn's it shall be deemed evidence of an offence. The only mention of local option is that such a vote shall not be taken before 1917.
