HAVELOCK TOWN BOARD.

Our Havelock correspondent writes: At the monthly meeting of the Havelock Town Board, held on Wednesday last, there, were present Messrs VV. H. Smith (Chairman), H, M. Reader, W. Pickering, W. H. Buckman, andT. D. Taylor. i LIGHTING THE HALL. Mr Nesbit, of Yncyca Bay, waited on the Board regarding an estimate for lighting the Town Hall with electricity. After having the matter thoroughly explained it was,,decided that time to consider the matter fully should be taken, and that Mr Nesbit and also Messrs Christian, and Naylor, who had both furnished estimates, should be' notified as to the decision of the Board. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Nesbit for the trouble he had taken to explain matters personally to the Board. STRAYING STOCK. The matter of straying stock was brought up, and complaint made as to the damage done to the water-tables by them, and it was decided that the inspector of police be written to, asking him to instruct the local constable to take action against owners of stock found straying on the roads. DAMAGED FOOTBALLS. Mr A. Reader, secretary of the • Pelorus Sub-Union, wrote stating that the barbed wire on the fence on the north side of Brownlee Park, between the park and the Catholic' Church grounds, had damaged footballs on several, occasions, and was also dan-, gerous,: and ■ asked that the Board--would see its way to have the wire' removed arid a plain wire substituted. ■ It was resolved on the motion'of Mx[ Reader, that the matter be; attended to, and the barbed wire renioved. * THui WAIRAU BRIDGE. - The Pelorus Road Board wrote regarding a joint loan for work at the Wairau bridge. It was resolved, (on the motion of Mr Reader, seconded by ■ • Mr Buckman, that a special order be made authorising the raising of a loan • i to pay th© Board's share of the cost ■■' of construction of the bridge. THE RATE. Mr Reader moved, and Mr Buckman seconded, that the rate for the current year be the same as for the preceding year—i.e., lad in the £. This was carried. ~ ' THE MUDFLAT ROAD. r The matter of the unfinished state - of the Mudflat road was brought up, and Mr Reader moved, and Mr Taylor • seconded, that application be made for a further grant of £100 to help; complete the -work; also for a grant of £100 for the town. This was carried without dissent. OVERHANGING TREES. The secretary was asked whether he had seen Mr Price regarding gumtrees left standing and shading theroad. He explained !that, owing to press of other work, he had not seen. Mr Price on,the matter. It was decided that the secretary see Mr. Price, and ask that it be attended,to. , .' _.
