ACCLIMATIZATION IN MARLBOROUGH.
TO THE EDITOR
Sir, —It is now nearly eighteen months since the Marlborough. Acclimatisation Society had iheir last annual meeting, and you could not find a more lax Society anywhere ; as my facts will show. Ist. Some time ago there was much talk about a fence that had been built at the hatcheries costing about £60 or £80. That fence was put up without the authority of the Council, and as they have to pass all accounts relating to the Society the next meeting should prove very interesting in that question alone. 2nd. This year the deer-stalking season opened on February 16th, and yet the notification of the opening did not appear till the 4th March. 3rd. There has as yet been no notice as to what game shall be shot this season, neither has there been any notice proclaiming the big lagoon" as a reserved area, and consequently the ducks will be having a very happy time early in the season. There will probably be some people shooting on tße big lagoon when it is Gazetted closed; but if the Society are too slow to pjroclaim it reserved as required by law, then it is their own fault. I think, Sir, you will find that my facts are correct, and you will see that a radical change is necessary, or else the whole concern should be given up or handed over to the Government. DUCKS.
