DROWNING FATALITY.
IN THE AWATERE RIVER
It was reported to Sergeant Hanson last night that a man named Edwards, employed on the Richmond Brook station, was drowned yesterday in the Awatere.River, about 16 miles from the station. A constable has been despatched to the scene of the fatality to make investigations as to the cause of drowning. The Coroner (Mr Florance, 5.M.,) went out to Richmond Brook to conduct an inquest this morning. A brother of the deceased, Mr Albert Edwards, who worked for Mr H. J. Stace at Robin Hood Bay, for some time is now employed at Clouston s wharf, and a sister resides in Picton. The unfortunate man had been m New Zealand only about three months, having arrived with his sister at Christmas time from England. It is understood that he was engaged in poisoning at Richmond Brook.
