SENIOR CUP.

WAIRAU A v. MARSHLANDS

The senior cricket championship was decided on Saturday, when the Wairau A team journeyed to Marshlands, and won from them by 41 runs. Marshlands won the toss, arid sent the visitors in to bat on a Tory bumpy; wicket, ball after ball rising over both: batsmen's and wicketkeeper's heads. Mills and Pear point opened to the bowling oi Robinson and Shwid»n >; playing carefully. At 39 Mills was going well, when he; received: a^ nasty i knock on the hands, and ,a.ftjerwa, rds lunged' recklessly at a ball, and'mado a big hit to lbng-on, Robinson taking a beautiful catch, after running a considerable distance from long-off 5 Armstrong filled the gap ? and began forcing matters, land received' a nasty knock, which compelled him to retire for a time. Finally he was beaten by a good ball from Fisk, for a riicSlyplayed 19, some good leg hits being a feature of his. innings. Tylor and Pearpoint became associated," but the former was dismissed by a good catch by Randall in the \longnteldi after bat-> ting well for 8, included in which. >vere come good hard hits. Pearpoint was playing a beautiful defensivs\ g&nie, with good strokes all round the wicket, but was „eventually run out. The remainder of the batsmen did .not last long, and thelirinings closed for 94, ,a yery fair score on such a bad wic&et. • / ' - ' - ',''■'' Marshlands began with, Robinson and* Sheridan to; the jbowlingief i Jennings and Peaifjtoint^Tho^ickW-W^s a*' much ' against '<k>he r " local. :team J'-asf against-the'visitors, arid-'they could comp_U« only 53 runs. ' A short thirdwickefc stand was made" by $. D. Ha£tilow-and Whifeley,. ,ihe pMnetsbip 'being broken -by' MMa, nkaJKipg a good one-handed catch at l,pojptf which dismissed Hastilow. Whiteley and Fisk both batted well, the'latter being dismissed by an excellent ball .from Bennjng and. Pearpoint bowled throughout Marshland's innings, and divided the wickets, each takig--/iye. This is the- first success' that Bfenn*ng has niet. with oh the 'Marshlands^ wicket. Pearpoint bowled well, an 4 mixed them cleverly. Fisk, foriMarohlands, met with decided success, taking four foi twenty, while Robinson was also successful. Lucas kept «m excellent length, and' bowled really well, but without success. • , The Marshlands ground-fielding vras better than that of the Wairau team, but, owing to the abominable state of the ground, nobody was certain of the ball. Marshland's fielding was good all round, with" perhaps"" a' little special mention of the beautiful catch by which Robinson disposed or Mills. For Wairau A, Armstrong "and Jackson shone out conspicuously in the field, the former taking' two «?plen-' did catches in the long field, while the latter disposed of C. Hastilow with a smart one. On the result of Saturday's match Wairau A are now assured of the cup, whether the remaining fixtures played1 or not. Their record or only two defeats and one draw is a good one, and they thoroughly deserve their win. Following are the details— WAIRAU A—lst Innings. Pearpoint, run out IP Mills, c Robinson b E.
