The names of Councillors A. A. Grace and Field and ex-Councillor C. J. Harley are mentioned as probable candidates for the Nelson Mayoralty.

A private telegram from Dunedin on Saturday night from Mr H. Oben stated that there was no possible hope of saving the sight of his right eye. This will cause general regret among Mr Oben's friends, who were hoping that a specialist would be able to save the eye. A later message received states that the eye was r&moved.

Word was received last week that Master Ivor Prichard (son of Mr T. C. Prichard, of Spring Creek) had won the scholarship of £10 for two years awarded to the candidate gaining the highest number of marks in the senior free place examination in Marlborough at the end of last year. The number of marks required for a pass is 800, and 1200 marks carry honors; young Prichard's total was 1425, which is a result creditable alike to himself and to his teachers.

Previously to his departure, Mr D. Robertson, who left Blenheim on Saturday for his new sphere of labor in Wellington, was the recipient of a safety razor and a beautiful, Kaiapoi travelling rug from the members of the St. Andrew's Lawn Tennis Club. The presentation was made by Mr A. McCallum, who referred to the good work which. Mr Robertson had done in connection with the club. He expressed regret at Mr -. Robertson s departure, but wished him success and prosperity for the future. Mr Robertson responded in a. short speech. '.'■..,
