SYDNEY, March 17. , Mr Hughes, advocating the need for the powers asked under the referenda, said that when he assumed office he found 33 combines wfcich had cornered the market and were acting otherwise than for th& benefit of the public. The Government wanted power to hit the iferusts whenever they saw them. * Mr Hughes made a bitter attack on !Mr Bclman for his lukewarm attitude tax the referenda.
