THE WOOL SEASON.
DECLINE IN OFFERINGS AND EXPORTS.
Following upon the close of the wool sale season come some very interesting figures, compiled by Messrs Dalgety and! Co., of the quantity ot wool offered, ~the quantity sold, and th* quantity, exported, and making comparisons, with last year s periods. The figures up to the end ot February show that during the eight i months ending then less wool was offered, less sold, and less exported than was thte case in the correspond^ ing eight months of the previous sea- ',. In January of this year 112,642 bales were offered, and 90,718 sold. The figures for the centres were: Invercargill, 13,862 bales offered, 11,----399 sold; fiune'din, 21,981 and 18,----042; Timaru j 6782 and 5462; Christchurch, 21,802 and 17,854; Wellington, 23,627 and 17,021; Napier, 16,----290 and 14,427; Gisborne, 828 and 545; and Auckland 7470 and 5968. Tn February 36;475 bales were offered and 33,104 sold. The details were: 1 vercargill, 3105 and 2871; Dunedin, 9138 and 8885; Timaru, 667 and 433; Christchurch, 4251 and 4736; Wellington, 12,782 and 10,206; Napier, 3856 and 3527; Gisborne, 515 and 515; and Auckland, 2161 and 1928.
Following are details of the offerings and the sales of wool this season and last season:—
The exports of wool from Wellington in January were 107,639 bales. The ports contributed to the total as follows:—lnvercargill, 1054; Dunedin, 1906; Oamaru, 1789"; Timaru, 10,692; Christchurch, 12,576; Blenheim, 4335; Nelson, 1955; Wellington, 41,884"; Wanganui, 6432; Waitara, 1177; Napier, 12,260; Gisborne, 6577; and Auckland, 6002. The export for the seven months ending January were 296,676 > bales, which quantity is 24,158 bales less than; for the "corresponding seven months in the previous season. In February 95,090 bales were exported. The quantities sent from the various ports were:—lnvercareill 6710; Dunedin, 17,503; Oamaru 1898; Timaru, 7512: Christchurch 19,203; Blenheim. 825; Nefeon, 854 Wellington,, 11,249; Wanganui, 4380; Waitara. 1784; Napier. 11,814: Gisborne. 7698: and' Auckland. 3660.
