Mr E. J. Hill, who has for 6ome years occupied a position on the reporting staff of this journal, has been appointed sub-editor.

Mademoiselle Antonia Dolores, the famous singer, will arrive by this evening's train. His Worship the Mayor (Mr E. H. Penny) will meet the distinguished visitor and welcome her to Blenheim.

At the Territorial training oamp at Tiauherenikau the other day, Lieut. G. W. O'Sullivan,. of Blenheim, was presented by his Excellency the Governor with his twelve years' volunteer service medal.

Mr D. Robertson, who has been connected with the Blenheim branch of the National Bank for some years, has received notice of his transfer to Wellington Mr Robertson has made many friends since his arrival here, and he will be greatly missed. Mr W. Jeffries, a late resident of 1 emuka„ now living at Frankton Junctiqn, and who contested the seat in the Opposition interest at the last election will, it is stated, again be a candidate for the seat at the forthcoming election.

The death opcurred at Wellington on Thursday last of Mr Henry Smith, at the age. of 74 years. Deceased enlisted in the 12th Lancers in 1855, and was on active service in India, receiving has discharge in 1861. He resided in Wellington for 37 years, and leaves a widow and family of six sons andthree daughters.
