CRICKET ASSOCIATION
Owing to the country delegates not putting in an appearance and" to the fact that the President and Secretary are not entitled to a vote, the last two meetings'1 of the Marlborough Cricket Association have not taken place- as there has not been a quorum present. For (Saturday night's meeting the Secretary took special care to circularise all delegates, so as to get a full meeting, as the business was important. But it was of no avail. Only two delegates—the Onamalutu" and Wairau—the President and Secretary, the latter two being of no use to form a quorum, put in an appearance. . • . The bungle over the President and Secretary is a very sad thing. ,Probably no other cricket association, or any association for that matter, in the Dominion debars the President and Secretary from having a vote at executive meetings, both officials practically having control over the Association's affairs, more so than any other member. It seems absurd that -they should be debarred in-this way and does not reflect credit on the prime movers, who, with an over-sensitive idea of fairness and ■justice to country clubs, carried their cause, and brought matters to _ the pass they are now m. Surely it these two officials, although they are members of a club which is represented on the Association, cannot use their discretionary powers of voting to further the "interests of cricket, not tor their own club—well, they are not worthy of the honor of being elected to such high positions. _ As it is, the affairs of the Association are at a standstill. For instance, the last round of the Senior Cup competition was completed last Saturday, there being no further fixtures drawn by the A&socuition, and
1 . , ■ ■ accordingly Wairau A. win the Cup. 1 Owing to there .being no quorum to form a meeting on Saturday night, 1 the Wairau A. v. Wairau B, Wairau ,A. v. Marshlands, Wairau B. v. Ferro, ami Marsnlands':v. Ferro fixtures have not been drawn to take place. If the country delegates have • apparently lo^tiall. interest in -the fix--1 tures, it may"'" be as' well to award the cup to Wairau A., and declare the season closed .as' far as the competitions are! concerned. The members of the Wairau A. team are a ! sporting lot, and would not^ wish' to , win the cup without completing their engagements. Probably some mutual arrangement can be made and the other engagements played. At any rate, let it be hoped so, for the sake of the king of summer ~ames ; who so far this season has had a reign of prosperity and peace in Marlborough.
