HEAVY IMPORTS OF HOBART

Oranges, mandarins, lemons, and passion fruit have been very scarce and dear in the market this week. The Australian keen shipping restrictions and minute inspection at this end have almost prohibited consignment of citrus fruit from New South Wales. The Manuka landed only 600 cases this week, and a portion of these, were condemned and destroyed. . Lemons sold at from 12s to 18s 6d; mandarins,', 21s •to 24s per bushel case; oranges realised 16s to 20s; passion fruit, 14s to 15s per halfcase ; and pineapples sold at 8s to 13s per box.

Unusually large consignments.- of Hobart apples continue to come'forward at this season of the year. The Moeraki landed 1000 cases yesterday. Stunners sold from 6s to 8s; other sorts, 5s 6d to 6s 6d. Mildura lemons realised from 12s to 18s per bushel case, according to condition. Repacked Island oranges, from Auckland, sold at from 12s to 17s 6d per case.

A consignment of red-skinned new potatoes arrived from Sydney on Wednesday and sold from 2d to 3d per lb. Auckland and local grown new potatoes are now coming in freely.

Hothouse tomatoes have been plentiful this week; the best' sold from 9d to Is Id" per lb. Gooseberries sold at 3d to 4£d per lb. Other prices for spring vegetables are: Green peas, 6d to Is per peck; French beans, 5d to l£d per lb; asparagus, 4d to lid per bunch, according to size; rhubarb, 3s to 5s 6d per dozen bundles; cucumbers, 4d to 8d each; pumpkins, 8s; cabbages, Is 6d to 3s 6d; cauliflowers, 5s to 9s; carrots, 3s to 5&; turnips, 3s to 4s; parsnips, 7s to 9s 6d, all per sack; lettuce, 2s to 5s per case. Old potatoes are selling at 11s to 12s per cwt. There arrived 1800 sacks from Melbourne this week. The first consignment of grapes came forward this week. They were rather small, and only realised 2s 6cl per lb. A heavy shipment of peas from Nelson arrived this morning, and values dropped down to'3d to 7d per peck.
