ROWING.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of ths Marltrough Rowing Association was hold «n Saturday night in the Club Hotel, the members present bevr.g:. Messrs T H. Price' (chairman), J. N. Jordan, J. H. Morrison, E. R. Lane, T- Miles, and W. J. Girling.' REPORT. The following report'■■'was submitted by the Executive .Committee, and was; , adopted:—"Your .Executive Committee have pleasure in presenting the annual report of the-As-sociation for the past year. Two ©vents of unusual interest took place during the year:-: First, the holding of the Championship Regatta at Picton on the 24th January, 1910. This was somewhat marred by difficulties in connection with the fixing of the , date, and we were unfortunate in having somewhat rough water on the first day, so that the public were disappointed in seeing the champion^ ship events. The unavoidable post- ' ponement of these events disarranged the convenient running of the races, which led to some unfortunate friction in regard to the rowing of the Champion Pair Oar race. Ihe other ovent of interest was the sending of ! a crew from the Blenheim Rowing Chib to compete in the inter-State Pour-oared Championship at Hobart. The enterprise of the Blenheim people and the capacity of the crew was, well demonstrated by the crew's fine ' performance in beating all the Australian competitors. We extend our "hearty congratulations to both club ■ and crew. During this year also a ' third club, the Wairau Rowing Club, j has been formed, and their applica- j tion. for affiliation comes before, you I to-night. Generally, the Association i may be congratulated on the success of its members in the rowing world during the last year, the Picton Club alone having won some 18 races against outside' crews. Your Committee trusts that the coming season wiil be equally, successful, in all, resptects." •"' \ CONGRATULATIONS: Mr '.Girling moved that the Association congratulate the Picton Club on its performance last year, in winning 18 races. v Mr Morrison thought it a record which would stand for some time, 1 and he considered a congratulatory letter should be sent the Pieton Club. " This was agreed^ to, the motion lieing carried.
