[from otjr correspondent.] Monday. _ The Presbyterian bazaar concluded on Friday evening, after a fairly good day's business had been, done* Th? hall was a little quiet mjte afternoon, but during, the £™nmg livened up. The shooting gallery was the principal attraction, Bejerrf prizes, such as cushions, Pleura frames, etc., being shot tor. JSaildriving competitions tor ladies an* gentlemen also created a good deal of amusement. The total, receipt^ were about £100, there being also* good deal'of material over, whicfo will be kept for a future bazaar oc sale.

On Friday afternoon word was received in town that a whale hadbeent caught at Te Awaite, and that thewhalers were pursuing another one* Next morning it was learnt that bot«? whales had been lost. It seems that, the first one had been captured and killed all right, and was left anchored, in Deep Bay while the whalers went* in chase of the second one, whicia they failed to secure. On returning: to Deep Bay they were astounded at. seeing ' no sign of their first whale.,. It is surmised that it must have sunk, but up to the present its whereaboutshave not been ascertained. Naturally the whalers are very chagrined? at a loss', which represents anything: from £400 to £600. On Saturday afternoon Messrs MeCormick and Dawkms ofieied at theur sale rooms two quarter-acre sectiona. in Wellington Street. Very litth* interest was taken, and only one bidt of £125 was made, this not being, half the reserve price on the sections., A lot of household effects were afterwards sold, fairly good prices being, obtained. For the last month the weather hasbeen rather peculiar. Quito regularly beautiful weather has been experienced from Monday to Saturday; morning, when a change haa gradually worked up and rain has set VA during the afternoon and kept oa till Sunday. " This last week has beexa» no exception; a breeze sprang up op Saturday morning from the northwest, bringing rain by, the afternoon^ and, during, the night the wind brewr with considerable, foree^ the ram-faffix-ing very heavily. Sunday morning; broke very fine, and but lor-a strong: wind blowing was very pleasant-. Wind can be expected this week, aseauinoctial gales are generally experienced about this time. On Sunday his Lordship Eishoph Mules was present at the lrormng. and evening services at Holy Trinity Church. He preached at the morning service, and during the evening:-, service confirmed several candidates. The Rev. Mr Paterson, of Welling* ton, conducted the service at St>.
