After twelve strobes from the start Arnst was two'lengths ahead, and maintained his .lead all-the. >way. -When within half a 'mil© of. home Barry .seemed to hesitate. .He then, pulled himself together, and' made a really surprising and-magnifi-' .cent spurt for about thirty or forty .strokes. Arnst never -altered .bis stroke. Barry nearly approached his tboat, when he collapsed, but finished ths 'course. It was a really good ;r,ace, but Barry .admitted that, he had no. idea that ishe man he was -fco .meet had such silafl .and power. . .Dr. Thacker .added that ,he had practically completed arrangements .'for ,Amst and tßarry to row on 'the ■ Thames in July mext.
