REMARKABLE SCENES.

Remarkable scenes were witnessed recently at the World's Sunday-school Convention in Washington. Amid great enthusiasm King George, President Taft, Mrs Taft, President Diaz of Mexico, and Mr W. J. Bryan, were nominated as life members. For each one thus honoured 1000 dollars (£200) had to be subscribed. There was great competition among those desirous of subscribing King George's "thousand," and such was the rush that Toronto got in only ninth. The nomination of public personages continued until not less than £13,000 had been subscribed for mission work.
