FLAXBOURNE SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION.
The usual meeting of the Flaxbourne Settlers' Association was held on May 30 (writes our correspondent). Owing to wet weather, there was a smaller attendance than usual, only twelve members being present. The chair was taken by Mr A. Thomson (president). Correspondence was received from the Minister for Public Works, through Mr J. Duncan, M.P.. in reference to railway construction and goods service which was available to Ward; also from Mr Chas. Murray in reference to freezing facilities.
It was resolved again to ask the Public Works Department to commence the 3| miles of construction of railway south of Ward, and the secretary was instructed to write to The Expeess stating that the Association had no sympathy with the views of a correspondent, "Settler," advocating cessation of work at Ward, which had recently been published. Messrs Wanden and Valentine attended, by invitation, in behalf of the Wairau Dairy Factory, and explained what was necessary to ensure the erection of a creamery. They said that the home separation scheme would probably be best for a commencement until it was seen how the industry prospered. Messrs Moyle, Chapman, and Mclsaac were appointed a committee to ascertain the number of cows which would be kept next September. It was thought that there was every prospect of the scheme working well.
