DR. HOCKENS WILL.

DUNEDIN, May 27. Probate of the will of the late Dr. Hocken was granted by the Supreme Court to-day. The will devises everything to executors upon trust to sell subject in each case to the widow's Hfo interest:—(l) 1900 shares in ■ the National Insurance Company, 500 shares in the Westport Coal Company, 2240 shares in the Standard Insurance Company, and 650 shares, in the Talisman Consolidated Mining Company, for the Univorsity of Otago. (2) To sell 4.6 shares in the Dunedin Stock Exchange Proprietary, 261 shares in the Mosgiel "Woollen Company, and 227 shares in Whitcombe and Tombs to be held in trust by the Diocesan Board to provide out of the income for an increase of the stipends of the poorer Anglican clergy in the diocese of Dunedin. (3) To sell 6 debentures of the Fernhill Club Company, 166 shares in the National Bank of New Zealand on trust for the Diocesan Board, which is to apply the income to the Maori Mission Board. (4) 100 shares in the Port Chalmers Gas Company, 250 shares in Mason, Struthers and Company, and 100 shares in the Junction Dredging Company (Victoria) on trust for the Salvation Army, to be applied equally between-the Maternity Home (Dunedin), the Rescue Home (Dunedin), and the Children's Home (Middlemarch). (5) 75 shares in the Trustees Executors Company, 250 shaves in the Taupiri Coal Company, 400 shares in the Burnside Company on trust for the Public Art Gallery. (6) 100- shares in the Dannevirke Gas Company, 275 shares in the Phoenix Confectionery Company on trust for the Trinity Methodist Church (Dunedin). The will provides that if any shares are sold under power of call given to the trustees, the money realised is to be applied in the same manner as if the shares had not been ,sold. The late Dr Hocken left 100 guineas to his cook. After the other bequests Miss Hocken receives'the residue of the estate. It is stated in the will that the testator is confident that the citizens of Dunedin will provide a yearly salary for the librarian in charge of the Hocken. Collection. The value of the estate is sworn i*t under £26,000.
