AUSTRALIAN BUTTER.
FEDERAL OFFICER'S REPORT.
COMPULSORY GRADING NECES-
SARY
[press association.]
SYDNEY, April 26. Mr Lockyer, assistant Comptroller of Customs, has furnished a report on the Federal Government's supervision of the butter export trade. The kernel of the report is a straightout demand for compulsory grading. Mr Lockyer declares that it is impossible to raise the Australian butter industry to a high level without it. He suggests that it^ is probable, with increasing perfection of grading, that a greater quantity of butter will be marketed in Australia.
The report also recommends Federal supervision in factories and a charge of one farthing per box for grading.
